The Power of Hope
The power of hope...
Hope…something which should anchor our souls in Christ and sustain us as we await the manifestations of the promises of God. So, Lord, why has hope instead created a wound in my heart? Why do I feel so weak and helpless to hope in You?
I questioned and found temporal fixes for about six months. I ran this race with such a limp and though it was clear that my hope had not been in God, I still couldn’t understand what was really happening. I had found out some news that I really was not expecting. Like really. It was such a shock to me that my heart truly felt sick, as Proverbs 13:12 tells us. I finally got to a point where I cried out to The Lord for Him to deal with it at the root, once and for all. He brought me to realise that I had placed my hope and expectation in the words of someone else. I took what they said as a fact and so when they did the complete opposite of what they had said, I was hit hard. Besides that I was also expecting that God would work some things on my own schedule surrounding the same situation so hey, it wasn’t a good day for me.
Of course this exposed so many things about my heart; it’s hidden desires, it’s current ‘love capacity’ and of course it’s understanding and application of hope. Let me share with you some of the lessons that have come to life for me;
Our hope in Christ is not as the world gives.
The world gives us a hope that is seeded with uncertainty; it may or may not happen. Oftentimes we bring this mentality of hope into our walk with Christ. Yet God through His Son Jesus gives us a hope that is sure. Biblically he word hope can be defined as a certain expectation, because God who promises is faithful and true to fulfil His word. In everything He never causes us to doubt, but aims to anchor us to Himself. The anchor (strength) of hope TIES you to what you place it in. You see, if our hope is (in) Christ, then our souls are anchored and tied to Him (Heb 6:19), and as we run our race He draws us to Himself, steadying and grounding us. But if our hope rests in the sometimes fickle words and deeds of men, we are able to experience hope deferred. Our souls become tied to other souls through the power of hope and we cannot move forward lest we drag their heavy weight along with us...Hope can keep soul ties alive! Where is your hope set?
Hope rests on faith and faith must be coupled with patience.
I’m sure we’ve all had our fair share of broken promises right? I found myself in a place where I felt I didn’t have the strength to hope to see a promise fulfilled. What if it didn’t happen? How was it humanly possible? What if this and how could that…? Reasoning is so dangerous to our faith but feels so natural to the flesh. The amplified version of Romans 6:6 tells us that the mind of the flesh is sense and reason without the Holy Spirit and leads to death! But the mind of the spirit if life and peace. (paraphrased)
The bible also reads in Hebrews 6:11-12 NKJV ‘And we desire that each one of you show the same diligence to the full assurance of hope until the end, that you do not become sluggish, but imitate those who through faith and patience inherit the promises.
I encourage you to sit with The Holy Ghost and ask Him to examine your hopes, if this is an area you’re struggling in. What specific things are you hoping for? Are they things God has promised? Are any soul ties being kept alive or strengthened through the power of hope?
I leave you with these encouraging scriptures (NKJV). Praying you are blessed Xx
Hebrews 6:15 - And so after He had patiently endured, he obtained the promise.
Hebrews 10:23 – Let us hold fast the confession of our hope without wavering, for He who promised is faithful.
Hebrews 10:35 – Therefore do not cast away your confidence, which has great reward. For you have need of endurance, so that after you have done the will of God, you may receive the promise.
Romans 5:5 AMP – Such hope never disappoints or deludes or shames us, for God’s love has been poured out in our hearts through the Holy Spirit Who has been given to us.
Jeremiah 17:7-8 – Blessed is the man who trusts in the Lord, And whose hope is the Lord. For He shall be like a tree planted by the waters…
Isaiah 40:31 – But those who wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings like eagles, they shall run and not be weary, they shall walk and not faint.
